Bring your Clayton home to life after dark.
Clayton is the seat of St. Louis County and one of the most architecturally rich residential markets in the region. Although it has the bustling downtown business district everyone associates with the city — corporate headquarters, towering buildings between Forest Park Parkway and Maryland Avenue — Clayton is actually 80% residential, and the residential neighborhoods are where some of our favorite projects happen.
Most Clayton homes were built between 1900 and 1950 in period revival styles — Tudor, Dutch Colonial, Georgian, French Provincial, Spanish Colonial. Many were designed by named architects, including a number by the famed St. Louis luxury firm Maritz & Young. The result is residential streets with extraordinary architectural quality — and lighting that, done right, can make those homes genuinely glow at night.
Clayton’s most prized residential neighborhoods include Wydown Forest (small lots, shallow set-backs, exudes a French village character), The Moorlands (a wonderful mix of architecture popular with young professionals), Davis Place (between downtown and Wydown shopping, 1930s construction, $700k-$2M+), and Claverach Park (founded 1926, 210 homes designed by Julius Pitzman across 88 acres with a central park and nine pocket parks). Each has its own character and lighting needs.
Clayton also has an active Architectural Review Board that governs exterior changes to homes. We’re familiar with the ARB process and design lighting that respects neighborhood character and existing ARB guidelines.
Here’s what we design and install across the area:
Clayton's architecturally rich homes reward precision accent work: stone facades, dormers, and entry features are the focal points.
Clean year-round roofline systems suit Clayton's design- conscious homeowner base better than seasonal-only setups.
The central business district drives steady commercial demand alongside residential work.
Clayton blends two distinct markets in one city: high-end residential streets near the country club, and a dense business district with significant commercial lighting needs. Residential projects tend to skew architectural and restrained — overdone lighting reads as out of place on these streets. Permitting and historic-district considerations apply on several blocks.
Many Clayton homes were designed by named architects, including the storied Maritz & Young firm. Our role isn't to add a layer of modern light on top of these designs — it's to use light as a way of revealing what's already there. Warm color temperatures, well-hidden fixtures, restrained beam angles, and lighting placements that respect the home's original design language.
Clayton's ARB governs exterior changes including some lighting installations. We're familiar with their guidelines and submit documentation when needed. We design with their standards in mind — appropriate materials, proportionate fixtures, and lighting choices that fit the neighborhood character.
Many Clayton neighborhoods have smaller lots and shallow set-backs — Wydown Forest in particular. That means lighting has to be precisely placed and carefully scaled. A fixture that would disappear in a Town & Country backyard can dominate a Wydown Forest front yard. We design accordingly — smaller fixtures, lower lumens, careful aim.
Subdivisions like Claverach Park were originally designed as integrated communities with central parks, pocket parks, and pedestrian-friendly street patterns. We design lighting that fits the original community vision — not just the individual home, but the way the home sits within the planned environment.

The work was fairly priced and the materials and workmanship were excellent. We actually rehired them again for even more lighting features.Posted on Google Bradley FisherTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently hired Landscape Lighting Guys to help with my home lighting system, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. I first met Matt while he was preparing a proposal for a large lighting project in our subdivision’s common areas. He took the time to meet with us multiple times, answer questions, and walk through the details of the project. During those meetings, I also had him take a look at my home’s landscape lighting system. Over the years, I had several different companies work on my lighting, and after some recent landscaping work, some wires were cut and pulled out, and fixtures were pulled out of their proper location. My system needed to be reset and repaired. Matt provided a beyond fair and detailed proposal, and his crew got right to work. What impressed me most was that they weren’t interested in taking shortcuts. Tyler and George explained that they could simply reconnect some of the old wiring, but they weren’t comfortable doing that because they couldn’t guarantee the long-term results. Instead, they took the time to trace the system, replace wiring where needed, and correct several issues left behind from previous installations. It was obvious they cared about doing the job correctly rather than just getting it done. The end result is actually better than what I had before. A few simple adjustments to fixture placement and aiming made a huge difference in how the house and landscaping are illuminated at night. The attention to detail was outstanding. Tyler and George were also incredibly professional and friendly throughout the entire process. They cleaned up after themselves, polished the fixtures, answered questions, and treated my property like it was their own. That level of service is hard to find these days. I’m also excited that Matt offers maintenance and service plans. One of the biggest challenges with landscape lighting is finding someone who understands your system and can maintain it properly over time. It’s reassuring to know I now have a trusted company that can keep everything looking great for years to come. If you’re looking for a company that values quality, professionalism, and long-term customer relationships, I highly recommend Matt, Tyler, George, and the entire team at Landscape Lighting Guys.Posted on Google Jeff BerzonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We met Matt many years ago when his business was young. His professionalism and dedications were matched by his crew. Years later we used his Company again, after we moved. We were just as impressed. Their suggestions, especially the Bistro Lights over the patio, were spot on. Another great job, And another round of compliments from our neighbors!Posted on Google Sue AckleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I did quite a bit of talking with several lighting companies in the beginning. Some didn’t show up for an appointment, one didn’t call back when I asked to make some changes to the bid, so I looked for someone who was honest, had integrity, and listened to what I wanted, but had great ideas as well. The Lighten guys fit the bill perfectly. My house lighten was done in the winter, but I knew I would like to add to it as soon as my garden was in full bloom. Matt came out today and again I was so pleased with his ideas! It’s going to be perfect! Thanks bunches Matt! They performed high quality work that they stand behind. I highly recommend them!Posted on Google Julie BuckTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Matt and his team originally designed and installed our landscape lights in 2021. We were thrilled with his expertise on placement of the lights. The end result turned out great. We still get compliments on our lighting. My favorite part is the yearly check and fix of any issues. His team cleans, checks and repairs lights, wires or any other issue each year. Hassle free for us. Highly recommend this company.Posted on Google Ben LloydTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Huge shout out for the entire team at LLG. I can't recommend them enough. The estimating was simple and clear, pricing was fair and competitive.. and I was blown away with the finished product! Whenever my wife comes home with the kids after baseball practice, she always makes the comment how safe she feels and how lit up our house looks! LLG completely changed the dynamic of my home. THANK YOU!!Posted on Google David KannapelTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Matt and the team couldn't have been better to work with. They were able to get us quoted, installed, and supported very quickly and professionally. In addition to the hardware and lights looking great, the professionalism has been above and beyond. Would highly recommend!Posted on Google Timothy RohlmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our lights were installed at least 10 years ago and worked fine except we had some trees removed and some were damaged. Those 3 were replaced and all the others (32) were serviced, cleaned and new bulbs. Excellent work thank you.Posted on Google Coco BloomfieldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Prompt, excellent service! So nice to deal with. Yes — we love working with named-architect homes. The design discipline they were built with deserves equal discipline in the lighting. We use period-appropriate fixtures, subtle placements, and warm color temperatures.
