Bring your Kirkwood home to life after dark.
Kirkwood is home turf for us. Our offices are at 562 High Avenue in Sunset Hills, about five minutes from downtown Kirkwood, so this is one of the first cities Matt and the team ever served. We’ve been designing and installing landscape lighting across Kirkwood for years, and it’s still one of our favorite places to work.
What makes Kirkwood special for landscape lighting is the architectural range. Kirkwood became the first planned suburb west of the Mississippi River when it was incorporated in 1853, and that long history left it with one of the deepest housing stocks in the region. You’ll find Queen Anne and Colonial Revival homes around Adams Park, brick Tudors along Argonne Drive, and entire mid-century modern neighborhoods like Sugar Creek Ranch and Craig Woods. Four districts in Kirkwood — Downtown Kirkwood, East Monroe, Jefferson-Argonne, and North Taylor — are on the National Register of Historic Places. Eighty-five other properties have local landmark designations.
Every house style asks for a different lighting approach. We design each Kirkwood project around the actual home — highlighting the gables and turrets of a Victorian, washing the brick face of a Tudor, accenting the long horizontal lines of a Ralph Fournier ranch. The mature landscaping helps too. Kirkwood’s century-old oaks, sycamores, and maples make for some of the most dramatic uplighting and moonlighting canvases in the region.
Whether you’re in Old Kirkwood, Meramec Highlands, Jefferson-Argonne, North Taylor, Greentree, or Sugar Creek Ranch, we’d love to walk your property and show you what’s possible.
Kirkwood’s historic Victorians, craftsman bungalows, and updated homes near the downtown station each ask for a different lighting approach. Architectural detailing here is the star — porches, gables, and entryways are usually where the design gets built around.
Kirkwood's architecturally diverse housing stock — Victorian, craftsman, and modern updates — makes accent lighting the most flexible and highest-value service in this market.
Established front gardens and historic walks reward pathway lighting that integrates with existing hardscape rather than overwhelms it.
Kirkwood's historic district aesthetic supports particularly elegant holiday lighting designs with strong annual demand.
Kirkwood’s mix of historic and updated homes makes every project a custom design decision — what works on a Victorian doesn’t work on a craftsman, and vice versa. Historic district guidelines may apply on certain streets; designs should respect original architectural character. The downtown corridor also generates steady commercial lighting opportunity for storefronts and patios.
Kirkwood is unusually varied. Within a few blocks you can pass a Queen Anne, a Tudor, a mid-century ranch, and a modern infill home. Lighting that works on one will overwhelm another. We adjust the entire design philosophy — fixture choice, beam angle, color temperature, brightness — based on what the architecture is asking for.
If your home is in one of Kirkwood's four National Register historic districts, the Landmarks Commission may need to review exterior alterations. We've worked with Kirkwood homeowners through this process and design lighting that complements the period character of historic homes rather than fighting it.
Many Kirkwood properties have century-old oaks and sycamores that are perfect candidates for moonlighting — downlighting fixtures placed high in the canopy that wash soft light over the ground below. This technique produces some of the most beautiful landscape lighting effects available, but it requires real expertise to install safely in mature trees.
Because Downtown Kirkwood is genuinely walkable, your front yard isn't just seen from the car. Lighting that looks good in passing also has to hold up when neighbors walk past at 9 PM. We design for both.
Why Kirkwood homeowners trust us with one of the region’s most architecturally diverse neighborhoods
Kirkwood has Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Tudor, Craftsman, and entire mid-century modern neighborhoods like Sugar Creek Ranch and Craig Woods all within a few miles of each other. We don't apply one lighting style to all of them. Each home gets a design built specifically for its era and architectural language.
If your home sits in Downtown Kirkwood, East Monroe, Jefferson-Argonne, or North Taylor, the Landmarks Commission may need to review exterior changes. We're familiar with that process, document our designs accordingly, and pick period-appropriate fixtures that fit Kirkwood's preserved character.
Our offices are at 562 High Avenue in Sunset Hills — closer to your Kirkwood home than most of our competitors. That means faster consultations, faster installations, and faster service calls when something needs attention.
Kirkwood's old-growth oaks, sycamores, and maples are some of the best moonlighting canvases in St. Louis County. We use professional tree-mounting hardware that doesn't damage bark, and place fixtures high in the canopy to create the dappled light effects that mature trees do beautifully.
Because Kirkwood's downtown is genuinely walkable, your front yard isn't just seen from passing cars — it's seen by neighbors strolling at 9 PM. We design glare-free lighting that holds up to pedestrian-level inspection, not just drive-by glances.

The work was fairly priced and the materials and workmanship were excellent. We actually rehired them again for even more lighting features.Posted on Google Bradley FisherTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently hired Landscape Lighting Guys to help with my home lighting system, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. I first met Matt while he was preparing a proposal for a large lighting project in our subdivision’s common areas. He took the time to meet with us multiple times, answer questions, and walk through the details of the project. During those meetings, I also had him take a look at my home’s landscape lighting system. Over the years, I had several different companies work on my lighting, and after some recent landscaping work, some wires were cut and pulled out, and fixtures were pulled out of their proper location. My system needed to be reset and repaired. Matt provided a beyond fair and detailed proposal, and his crew got right to work. What impressed me most was that they weren’t interested in taking shortcuts. Tyler and George explained that they could simply reconnect some of the old wiring, but they weren’t comfortable doing that because they couldn’t guarantee the long-term results. Instead, they took the time to trace the system, replace wiring where needed, and correct several issues left behind from previous installations. It was obvious they cared about doing the job correctly rather than just getting it done. The end result is actually better than what I had before. A few simple adjustments to fixture placement and aiming made a huge difference in how the house and landscaping are illuminated at night. The attention to detail was outstanding. Tyler and George were also incredibly professional and friendly throughout the entire process. They cleaned up after themselves, polished the fixtures, answered questions, and treated my property like it was their own. That level of service is hard to find these days. I’m also excited that Matt offers maintenance and service plans. One of the biggest challenges with landscape lighting is finding someone who understands your system and can maintain it properly over time. It’s reassuring to know I now have a trusted company that can keep everything looking great for years to come. If you’re looking for a company that values quality, professionalism, and long-term customer relationships, I highly recommend Matt, Tyler, George, and the entire team at Landscape Lighting Guys.Posted on Google Jeff BerzonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We met Matt many years ago when his business was young. His professionalism and dedications were matched by his crew. Years later we used his Company again, after we moved. We were just as impressed. Their suggestions, especially the Bistro Lights over the patio, were spot on. Another great job, And another round of compliments from our neighbors!Posted on Google Sue AckleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I did quite a bit of talking with several lighting companies in the beginning. Some didn’t show up for an appointment, one didn’t call back when I asked to make some changes to the bid, so I looked for someone who was honest, had integrity, and listened to what I wanted, but had great ideas as well. The Lighten guys fit the bill perfectly. My house lighten was done in the winter, but I knew I would like to add to it as soon as my garden was in full bloom. Matt came out today and again I was so pleased with his ideas! It’s going to be perfect! Thanks bunches Matt! They performed high quality work that they stand behind. I highly recommend them!Posted on Google Julie BuckTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Matt and his team originally designed and installed our landscape lights in 2021. We were thrilled with his expertise on placement of the lights. The end result turned out great. We still get compliments on our lighting. My favorite part is the yearly check and fix of any issues. His team cleans, checks and repairs lights, wires or any other issue each year. Hassle free for us. Highly recommend this company.Posted on Google Ben LloydTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Huge shout out for the entire team at LLG. I can't recommend them enough. The estimating was simple and clear, pricing was fair and competitive.. and I was blown away with the finished product! Whenever my wife comes home with the kids after baseball practice, she always makes the comment how safe she feels and how lit up our house looks! LLG completely changed the dynamic of my home. THANK YOU!!Posted on Google David KannapelTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Matt and the team couldn't have been better to work with. They were able to get us quoted, installed, and supported very quickly and professionally. In addition to the hardware and lights looking great, the professionalism has been above and beyond. Would highly recommend!Posted on Google Timothy RohlmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our lights were installed at least 10 years ago and worked fine except we had some trees removed and some were damaged. Those 3 were replaced and all the others (32) were serviced, cleaned and new bulbs. Excellent work thank you.Posted on Google Coco BloomfieldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Prompt, excellent service! So nice to deal with.
