Outdoor Audio in St. Louis

Concert-quality sound. Concealed in your landscape. Designed to disappear.

Overview

Expert Outdoor Audio Services

Outdoor audio used to mean clunky rock-shaped speakers, awkward porch mounts, or one Bluetooth speaker fighting the breeze. Today, it can mean something entirely different — a fully engineered audio system that disappears into your landscape and delivers rich, even, concert-quality sound across your entire outdoor living space.

We design and install professional outdoor audio systems built around the Sonance Landscape Series — widely regarded as the gold standard in landscape audio. The system uses small satellite speakers placed in garden beds and discreet in-ground subwoofers buried under turf or mulch, all working together to fill your yard with even, immersive sound. No hot spots. No dead zones. No visible equipment dominating the view.

Why Sonance Landscape Series

There are plenty of outdoor speakers on the market. Many of them are perfectly fine for casual use. But when homeowners want a system that genuinely transforms how the outdoor space sounds and feels — and stands up to Missouri’s full range of weather — Sonance Landscape Series is the system we install and stand behind.

Designed to disappear

Compact satellite speakers tuck into garden beds, hedges, and landscape features. Subwoofers are buried in-ground with only a small vent visible. The system is heard, not seen.

Distributed sound, not point-source sound

Multiple small satellites placed around the yard create even coverage. Music sounds the same everywhere — at the patio, at the pool, by the fire pit — not loud near the speaker and faint everywhere else.

Real bass from a buried subwoofer

— In-ground subwoofers deliver full-range, concert-quality low end. The same warmth and depth you'd get from a quality indoor system, now coming from your backyard.

Built for the elements

Sealed, weather-resistant construction handles full Missouri summers, winters, humidity, and freeze-thaw cycles. Built to last for years.

Trusted by audio professionals

Sonance is one of the most respected names in custom audio installation, dating back to the original architectural speaker designs of the 1980s. The Landscape Series brings that engineering quality outdoors.

Key Benefits

Why Outdoor Audio Is Worth the Investment

Even, immersive sound across the entire yard

No volume hot spots, no dead zones, no straining to hear at the far end of the patio.

Hidden equipment

Speakers blend into landscaping. Subwoofers are buried. The yard still looks like a yard, not a stage.

Concert-quality bass

In-ground subwoofers deliver real low-end response that consumer outdoor speakers can't match.

App-controlled and zoned

Stream from your phone, your existing smart speaker, or a dedicated streaming amplifier. Set up multiple zones — patio, pool, fire pit — that play independently or together.

Built to last

Weather-rated for full St. Louis seasonal extremes.

Increases property and outdoor-living value

A professionally installed audio system makes outdoor entertaining genuinely better and contributes to the long-term value of the home.

What's in a Typical Sonance Landscape System

Satellite speakers

Small, compact speakers (typically 4 to 8 per system, depending on yard size and layout) placed throughout garden beds and landscape areas. Each satellite handles mid- and high-frequency sound, and they're spaced to create even coverage across the listening areas — patios, decks, pools, fire pits, and the connecting spaces between.

In-ground subwoofer

Buried under turf or mulch with only a small low-profile vent visible at ground level. The subwoofer handles all the low-frequency content — the depth, the warmth, the impact — and because it's buried, the bass propagates evenly through the yard rather than coming from one point.

Amplifier and streaming source

A weather-protected outdoor amplifier (or indoor amplifier feeding outdoor wiring, depending on the installation) powers the system. Streaming sources include Sonos, Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth, hardwired inputs, or integration with existing whole-home audio systems. App control is standard.

Wiring, conduits, and integration

All wiring is direct-burial rated, run in conduit where appropriate, and integrated with existing landscaping. We coordinate carefully with irrigation, low-voltage lighting wiring, and any planned future landscape work to avoid conflicts.

Common Use Cases

Pool and pool-deck entertaining — Even sound coverage across the pool deck and lounge areas without speakers competing with the splash of the water.

Patio and outdoor dining — Background music at conversational volume, with the option to turn it up for a party.

Fire pit and lounge zones — Warm, immersive sound that fits the quiet, evening character of fire-pit gatherings.

Outdoor kitchens and bar areas — Audio that holds its own through cooking, conversation, and entertaining.

Whole-yard ambient audio — Subtle background music across the full property for everyday outdoor use — gardening, relaxing, working from a patio.

Game day and special events — System scales up from dinner-party background to real party sound when you need it to.

Our Approach

How We Install with Outdoor Audio Clients

01

We design before we install

Speaker placement isn't intuitive. Two speakers in the wrong spots can sound worse than one in the right spot. We walk your yard, understand how you actually use the space, and design the satellite and subwoofer layout for even coverage in the areas that matter — patio, pool, fire pit, entertaining zones — without overdoing it where it doesn't.

02

We coordinate with your landscape lighting

Outdoor audio and landscape lighting share a lot of wiring infrastructure. If you're installing both, we coordinate the design so wiring runs serve both systems efficiently and nothing has to be torn up later. This saves cost on integrated projects and produces a cleaner finished result.

03

We install it the right way, not the fast way

Direct-burial wiring, properly trenched conduit runs where needed, weatherproof connections, real grounding. Sonance hardware is excellent — but it only performs at its potential if the installation is done correctly. That's where we focus.

04

We tune the system after install

Once everything is in the ground, we calibrate. Volume balance across zones, subwoofer crossover and level, EQ tuning for the specific outdoor environment. A system that's installed but not tuned is a system not delivering its potential. We don't leave until it sounds the way it should.

Outdoor Audio FAQ

Common Questions, Clear Answers

Why Sonance Landscape Series specifically?

Because it’s purpose-built for outdoor distributed audio — not a consumer speaker repurposed for the outdoors. The Landscape Series uses small satellites spaced around the yard for even coverage, paired with a buried subwoofer for real low-end. The engineering and weather resistance are best-in-class for this category.

The satellite speakers are intentionally small and designed to tuck into garden beds and landscape features. They’re typically dark green, dark brown, or black so they blend into plantings. Once installed, most homeowners and visitors don’t notice them unless they’re specifically pointed out. The subwoofer is buried entirely with only a small vent visible at ground level.

Loud enough to fill the yard for a party, quiet enough for background music during dinner. The system is fully adjustable, and we tune the volume balance and zoning after installation so different parts of the yard can play at different levels independently.

Yes. Sonance systems integrate with Sonos, Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth, and most major streaming platforms. We set up the system so you can control music, volume, and zones from your phone or any compatible device.

We design specifically to keep sound contained to your property. Distributed satellite placement (rather than one loud point source) means we can deliver immersive sound at lower overall volumes, which keeps the audio in your yard and not in your neighbor’s. Subwoofer placement and tuning also minimize bass spillover.

Mostly, yes. We use direct-burial cable in narrow trenches that can be opened and closed cleanly with
minimal disruption to existing landscaping. If we’re installing outdoor audio alongside landscape lighting
at the same time, we coordinate trenching so both systems share infrastructure.

Yes. Sonance Landscape Series hardware is engineered to handle full seasonal extremes including freeze, thaw, humidity, and direct sun. The system is installed to stay in place year-round and to perform consistently across all four seasons.

Yes — that’s one of the advantages of a distributed system. We can start with a primary zone (patio and pool, for example) and add additional satellites or zones later as needs grow. The amplifier and infrastructure are designed to expand.

Yes. We provide free on-site consultation and written proposals before any work begins. We’ll walk the property, understand how you use the outdoor space, and design a system specifically for your yard and your goals.
