Bring your Clayton home to life after dark.
Clayton is the seat of Saint Louis County and one of the most architecturally rich residential markets in the region. Although it has the bustling downtown business district everyone associates with the city, Clayton is actually 80% residential — and the residential neighborhoods are where some of our favorite projects happen.
Most Clayton homes were built between 1900 and 1950 in period revival styles — Tudor, Dutch Colonial, Georgian, French Provincial, Spanish Colonial. Many were designed by named architects, including a number by the famed Saint Louis luxury firm Maritz & Young. The result is residential streets with extraordinary architectural quality — and lighting that, done right, can make those homes genuinely glow at night.
Clayton’s most prized neighborhoods include Wydown Forest (small lots, shallow set-backs, French village character), The Moorlands (a wonderful mix of architecture popular with young professionals), Davis Place (1930s construction between downtown and Wydown shopping), and Claverach Park (founded 1926, 210 homes designed by Julius Pitzman across 88 acres with a central park and nine pocket parks).
Clayton also has an active Architectural Review Board that governs exterior changes to homes. We’re familiar with the ARB process and design lighting that respects neighborhood character and existing ARB guidelines.

From single-spotlight accents to full estate designs — architectural uplighting, pathway, deck, patio, bistro, and permanent roofline lighting.
Many Clayton homes were designed by named architects, including the storied Maritz & Young firm. Our role isn't to add a layer of modern light on top of these designs — it's to use light to reveal what's already there. Warm color temperatures, well-hidden fixtures, restrained beam angles.
Clayton's ARB governs exterior changes including some lighting installations. We're familiar with their guidelines, submit documentation when needed, and design with appropriate materials and proportionate fixtures.
Many Clayton neighborhoods have smaller lots and shallow set-backs. A fixture that would disappear in a Town & Country backyard can dominate a Wydown Forest front yard. We use smaller fixtures, lower lumens, and careful aim.
Subdivisions like Claverach Park were designed as integrated communities with central parks and pedestrian-friendly streets. We design lighting that fits the original community vision — not just the home, but how it sits within its planned environment.

The work was fairly priced and the materials and workmanship were excellent. We actually rehired them again for even more lighting features.Posted on Google Bradley FisherTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently hired Landscape Lighting Guys to help with my home lighting system, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. I first met Matt while he was preparing a proposal for a large lighting project in our subdivision’s common areas. He took the time to meet with us multiple times, answer questions, and walk through the details of the project. During those meetings, I also had him take a look at my home’s landscape lighting system. Over the years, I had several different companies work on my lighting, and after some recent landscaping work, some wires were cut and pulled out, and fixtures were pulled out of their proper location. My system needed to be reset and repaired. Matt provided a beyond fair and detailed proposal, and his crew got right to work. What impressed me most was that they weren’t interested in taking shortcuts. Tyler and George explained that they could simply reconnect some of the old wiring, but they weren’t comfortable doing that because they couldn’t guarantee the long-term results. Instead, they took the time to trace the system, replace wiring where needed, and correct several issues left behind from previous installations. It was obvious they cared about doing the job correctly rather than just getting it done. The end result is actually better than what I had before. A few simple adjustments to fixture placement and aiming made a huge difference in how the house and landscaping are illuminated at night. The attention to detail was outstanding. Tyler and George were also incredibly professional and friendly throughout the entire process. They cleaned up after themselves, polished the fixtures, answered questions, and treated my property like it was their own. That level of service is hard to find these days. I’m also excited that Matt offers maintenance and service plans. One of the biggest challenges with landscape lighting is finding someone who understands your system and can maintain it properly over time. It’s reassuring to know I now have a trusted company that can keep everything looking great for years to come. If you’re looking for a company that values quality, professionalism, and long-term customer relationships, I highly recommend Matt, Tyler, George, and the entire team at Landscape Lighting Guys.Posted on Google Jeff BerzonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We met Matt many years ago when his business was young. His professionalism and dedications were matched by his crew. Years later we used his Company again, after we moved. We were just as impressed. Their suggestions, especially the Bistro Lights over the patio, were spot on. Another great job, And another round of compliments from our neighbors!Posted on Google Sue AckleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I did quite a bit of talking with several lighting companies in the beginning. Some didn’t show up for an appointment, one didn’t call back when I asked to make some changes to the bid, so I looked for someone who was honest, had integrity, and listened to what I wanted, but had great ideas as well. The Lighten guys fit the bill perfectly. My house lighten was done in the winter, but I knew I would like to add to it as soon as my garden was in full bloom. Matt came out today and again I was so pleased with his ideas! It’s going to be perfect! Thanks bunches Matt! They performed high quality work that they stand behind. I highly recommend them!Posted on Google Julie BuckTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Matt and his team originally designed and installed our landscape lights in 2021. We were thrilled with his expertise on placement of the lights. The end result turned out great. We still get compliments on our lighting. My favorite part is the yearly check and fix of any issues. His team cleans, checks and repairs lights, wires or any other issue each year. Hassle free for us. Highly recommend this company.Posted on Google Ben LloydTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Huge shout out for the entire team at LLG. I can't recommend them enough. The estimating was simple and clear, pricing was fair and competitive.. and I was blown away with the finished product! Whenever my wife comes home with the kids after baseball practice, she always makes the comment how safe she feels and how lit up our house looks! LLG completely changed the dynamic of my home. THANK YOU!!Posted on Google David KannapelTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Matt and the team couldn't have been better to work with. They were able to get us quoted, installed, and supported very quickly and professionally. In addition to the hardware and lights looking great, the professionalism has been above and beyond. Would highly recommend!Posted on Google Timothy RohlmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our lights were installed at least 10 years ago and worked fine except we had some trees removed and some were damaged. Those 3 were replaced and all the others (32) were serviced, cleaned and new bulbs. Excellent work thank you.Posted on Google Coco BloomfieldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Prompt, excellent service! So nice to deal with. Matt’s path to landscape lighting is anything but typical. A trained EMT and Paramedic, he spent years caring for people on their worst days before turning his focus to building something with his hands. He grew a successful Saint Louis landscaping company, then sold it in 2018 to do what he loved most — design and install outdoor lighting that genuinely transforms a home.
He started Landscape Lighting Guys because he kept seeing lighting treated as an afterthought — installed by landscapers as a side service, with cheap fixtures and no real design behind it. Matt believes Saint Louis homeowners deserve better, and he leads every consultation personally.
"I treat every property like it's my own. If it isn't right when the sun goes down, it isn't finished."
— Matt Wooldridge
Yes. We’re familiar with Clayton’s ARB guidelines and provide documentation and design specifications when needed for review.
Absolutely. Smaller lots demand more precise design — we use lower-output fixtures, carefully aimed beam angles, and warm color temperatures that don’t overwhelm the home or spill onto neighboring properties.
Yes. Matt or one of our designers will walk your property and provide a free, no-obligation written proposal.
Clayton projects range widely — a focused architectural lighting design for a Wydown Forest home might start in the $3,000–$6,000 range, while full estate-scale projects in Davis Place or larger Clayton properties can run significantly higher.
Yes — we love working with named-architect homes. The design discipline they were built with deserves equal discipline in the lighting. We use period-appropriate fixtures, subtle placements, and warm color temperatures.
We’re based about 15 minutes from Clayton at 562 High Avenue in Sunset Hills — which means quick response times for consultations, installations, and service calls.
Clayton homes deserve lighting designed with architectural respect and real craftsmanship. We’d love to walk your property, understand your home, and put together a thoughtful custom proposal.
